Is CoolSculpting Right For Me?
CoolSculpting® procedure was first approved by the FDA in 2010. But over the last few years there has been a lot of hype and popularity regarding the procedure. Now you may be wondering “is CoolSculpting right for me?” To answer this question, you may need to consider a few things. Those being– the type of body fat you have, your age/skin type, and what are your expectations.
Unfortunately, CoolSculpting® is not a procedure for everyone. This procedure is safe and effective for reducing body fat in many people. However, some people with certain conditions, such as Cryoglobulinemia, Cold Agglutinin Disease or Paroxysmal Cold Hemoglobuinuria (PCH), should not undergo this procedure because the risk of complications. Remember, it is always important to consult your doctor before seeking out a professional to perform the procedure.
What type of fat do I have?
There is two types of fat that we look for. The first is Visceral fat. This is really, really bad fat. This is body fat that is stored within the abdominal cavity and is therefore stored around a number of important internal organs such as the liver, pancreas and intestines. This fat cannot be treated using the CoolSculpting® procedure. You will want to discuss this type of fat with your primary care physician for ways to treat.
Then there is Subcutaneous fat. This is fat that is located just underneath the skin, which may cause dimpling and cellulite. It is the stubborn fat that the CoolsSculping® procedure is most effective with. Once we determine that you have this type of fat, we can then setup a plan of treatment for the areas needing attention.
Am I too young or too old?
There is no age restrictions for the CoolSculpting® procedure and is very safe for most adults overall. However, if you are under age 18 you will want to discuss with your parents or guardian. They will also need to accompany you on any consultation, as well as sign the necessary consent forms.
One of the primary considerations for older adults, is skin sagging. Skin sagging can be a result of pregnancy, lost weight or age. The CoolSculpting® procedure is meant to provide a slimmer profile and will not help with certain types of sagging. During your consultation, our physician can discuss these areas of concern.
What are my expectations?
First and foremost, CoolSculpting® is not a procedure or treatment for obesity. It is a procedure that is best used for those stubborn areas where diet and exercise aren’t as effective or you aren’t seeing the tone that you’d like.
The areas where CoolSculping® is most effective include:
- Love Handles/Flanks.
- Under the Neck (Double Chin)
- Back/Bra Area.
- Male Chest (Pseudogynecomastia)
CoolSculpting® shouldn’t replace diet and exercise. It should instead, be a tool used to help tone those stubborn areas where diet and exercise aren’t helping. With that said, we want to be sure that your expectations are inline with what the procedure is capable of achieving. Being that everyone’s body is different, our physician will work with you on a treatment plan design to deliver optimum results and help get you to your ideal image.
